Mary
Ann Scherer, daughter of August Scherer and Mary Elisabeth (Hensgen)
Scherer, was born 11 March 1867 in Buffalo, New York. Mary was christened
at St. Michael's RC Church 17 March 1867. Mary wed Benjamin Aloysius
Meyers, the son of Georg Meyer and Christina (Oster) Meyer on 4 May 1892
at St. Michael's RC Church.
Mary & Ben Meyers moved to Kenmore,
New York and were among the founding members of St. Paul's RC Church. Ben
Meyers was orphaned at a young age and records indicate several variations
in the spelling of the surname Meyers. Mary & Ben lived for many years
at 102 Mang Avenue in Kenmore. Mary bore 10 children, difficult for
certain at that time.
Mary is well remembered for her strong
devotion to her faith. Mary took comfort and solace in praying the Rosary,
attending Mass, and receiving absolution in confession. Mary was a quiet
soul and is also remembered for the peaceful, clean home she
kept.
Mary died 14 December 1947 while institutionalized at Forest
Hills. Mary is buried with Ben Meyers at Our Lady Help of Christians
(Maria Hilf) cemetery in Cheektowaga, New York.
More pages will
follow after the Reunion as I need pictures to complete this line and
earnestly solicit anyone with Ben or Mary (Scherer) Meyers pictures to
please bring them to the Reunion. I will have camera equipment to copy
them at that time. (I will not borrow pictures rather I will be able to
photographically duplicate them.) |
